The “Rainbow Relief Response Team” has landed (probably with a backfire- lol).

In all seriousness, the situation is pretty dire. I’ve been told the devastation doesn’t even match the pictures shown on T.V. Throw in very little running water, electricity, and communications, and the situation becomes surreal.

R.J.’s bus, Hawker, Stone, and others are located in Gulfport, Mississippi (coincindently, W. Bush is there today. He may not talk to Cindy Sheehan but maybe he’ll talk to us ;-)). This is one of the same areas that has been continually covered by CNN and other television outlets, as the devastation is immense.They are working with various relief outfits and apparently have the complete blessing and appreciation of these organizations.

Those interested in volunteering can find them on “Polk” street. It has to be stressed, though, that this is not a “rainbow gathering” per se. The heat is intense, there are bodies, and the smell of garbage and other decay will hit you from 200 miles away.

Those interested in helping should come as self-sufficient as possible. Dress for heat and bring articles of clothing for clean-up (boots, gloves, etc.) Those of fragile stamina and psyche should think long and hard before volunteering. There is always a possibility of an epidemic

Yes, this will be life changing experience with all the self-satisfaction of being involved with one of the greatest relief actions this country has ever seen.

On the financial end, our donate link (the CALM’s) has raised about $250 dollars. Not exactly United Way, I know, but still very appreciated. Our people with CALM have spent about $800, the majority of it on re-hydration fluid and energy bars. The population is experiencing massive mineral and salt deficiency, in part, to the intense heat and humidity.

I’ve been asked to raise more money. I know that it seems everyone and their brother has a relief fund, but we’re the Rainbow Family and just our very presence has to be one of the most uplifting atmospheres these people have ever seen. Pass this email on to anyone who may be interested in our cause. 100 percent of all donations are used directly for relief. There are no organization costs (Rainbow doesn’t believe in “leaders”, only consensus through total agreement. Thus, there is no organization)

Really? Sounds to me like they are reminding people to bring water if they come to help. It does say how much was spent on rehydration fluid (probally better for the local folk) and energy bars.

Spiritrising, you are always so negative. Would you tell in folks in our home county not to send help to Waverly Miss because FEMA declared it a disaster area & refused to help the towns people? Would you tell the people of Waverly to just leave their homes and give up, so the red cross can send them to people who they don’t know, to accept charity that they don’t want?

Concidering the FEMA fiascos, it’s highly unlikely the the Rainbow Relief effort is going to do anything but help. Bother, you need to get some faith in your fellow man, cuz it’s your fellow man that sandbagged like crazy to to protect the midwest during the floods of ‘93 (& yes, the National Guard was there too) It’s your fellow man that has done the largest percentage of hero work in the Katrina rescue efforts and in the relief efforts.

But whatever, if negetivity is your trip, i hope it takes you where you want to be.

nothing wrong with helping someone, but when the put a label on it, that does not belong there that is wrong! hence those down there that are really helping should say who they really are helping like salvation army or some church group! and when they go there without the needed supplies and have to rely on others to do a job, then it isn’t them again, its the people who supplied them. salvation army and the church group should get the credit not rainbow. sooo... do you believe that others should reap rewards for others doings? thats what they are doing!

Hmmmm, I read elsewhere that the Salvation Army is helping the Rainbow kitchens. Pretty sure the Rainbow Relief effort isn’t about reaping rewards, it’s about helping people. Nobody at the hippiestead expects rewards or even a pat on the back for any help we’ve offered anyone over the years. Pretty sure the main objective with the updates is to keep other folks aware of what is happening on the Gulf coast..

The Rainbows left with the needed supplies and used them; that is why the other groups are willing to give them more supplies. You just want to diss anything associated with Rainbow, Spirit, and I feel sorry for you, you need healing in your heart but you don’t want to be healed-hense your constant negativity about Rainbow.

Now please Spirit, try seeing from a view other than your own and allow the rest of us to view updates without being distracted with the negativity. If you must voice your opinions, then start a new thread, cuz we all just wasted a page arguing.

On the Thursday after Katrina hit, I was overwhelmed at the disaster... and the conditions folks were dealing with... I found myself being drawn back many times to the news.... even though I wasn’t wanting to watch... there I was... practically glued and desperately ashamed of what was happening in front of so many eyes....

Did you know that Rainbow has been practicing operating under adverse conditions for 33 years? It’s not about who helps who... or even under what name the help comes from... “Just Do It”......... and some are!!! Many Thanks... to those good brothers and sisters!!!! Pat pat... pat!!!

The front of our bus held the name ‘Free Church of the Living Light’ but if anyone asks who we are, we say ‘Rainbows’ . You seem to want to hold a group of individuals responsible for anything bad you ever experienced having to do with Rainbow Gatherings or Rainbow but you want other groups to take all the credit for unfified efforts.

If you want to ignore individual Rainbows cooking enough food to feed 6000, yet blame the Rainbow Family as a whole for your bad experiences, then that’s what your going to do; whatever.

there are military... volunteers...animal rescurers, and regular folks needing food all day every day..( who the heck knows if one is not there in person)..........but feeding is...Feeding no matter there respective status..

Actually I picture big trucks pulling up and unloading.. food to food piles... stuff to stuff piles... (supply tent?) and all being distrubuted to those “doing it” In the name of Rainbow........ NO......... in the name of peace, love and real caring... absolutely. So what if there are two or 20!

Since this is my first written post to AGR (man, what negativity), lets clear the air on a few things. I’ve been with CALM (Center for Alternative Living Medicine)for ten years staight. I’ve acted with nothing but the most honorable intentions concerning banking and CALM setup, as the way real family should be.

Rob’s character is beyond repoach. His decision to not fully maintain the Welcomehome site came from the scathing negativity experienced here and the increased scrutiny from the NRMT. HE IS NOT NRMT!!!

“High Holies” can pretty much be translated to “anyone productively trying to pull off a Gathering event”.

“Drainbows” can be translated to “anyone with low self-esteem that can’t seem to put their beer (or others) down long enough to change the bad hand they were dealt in life”.

Just because an acronym is used (and a funny one at that), does not make the Rainbow Relief Team official with a heirarchal leadership structure. Last night council was held in Waveland, MS concerning kitchen matters and group consensus was reached.

The deal is, to get the ball rolling, it first takes a nudge. The ball is rolling pretty good now, with between 5,000 and 6,000 meals being served a day. We all became invovled because of the desire to respond to the suffering that was flooding us through CNN and other media outlets. That’s Family, period.

You got that right about AGR.. the few trolls who hate Rainbow generate nearly all of the negativity here. Speaking of which, you may know Preacha Bill/Eliyahu Simchah/William O’Leary (now Billdozer.. rofl), since he claims he was a big part of CALM for years. What happened to turn him against family so? He’s the biggest proponent of this myth called NRMT and such other nonsensical conspiracy theories.

Update on what’s happening on the hurricane relief scene. Granola Funk, Iris, and Kiddie Village are setup at the “Wall-less Mart” in Waveland, Miss. This is on highway 90 as you go through town. You can’t miss it, it’s a large parking lot across the street from what’s left of the police station, and down the road from the water tank on a tower that says Waveland on it. There is a curfew from 8pm - 6am, so don’t arrive at that time or you can’t get in. There are military roadblocks everywhere. It should also be recognizable due to the amount of buses around the site.

Last night many of the Rainbow folks there for a few days finally got to the same place. The folks there have joined with the BCBC, a christian relief group out of Texas and the Salvation Army in providing aid. Supplies are finally flowing in. Last night they unloaded 3 semis of food, and fed somewhere over 6000 people today, and the food is gone already. More food and people are starting to pour in. They’ve also become the main distribution center for supplies of water, clothing, camping gear, and other support. Any everything is free! :-)

I hear the it’s interesting having cops and military people hanging out around the kitchen in a friendly manner, as we’ve all become used a more adversarial relationship. Supposedly they love the food. I also hear all the other support groups are picking up Rainbow slang, and are learning to say “Welcome Home” and shout “We Love You!”. :-)

Anyway, they say they don’t need anymore donations of clothing, it’s still way too hot and they have plenty. One thing they don’t have is more experienced kitchen crew. There are about 18 Rainbow folks there now, and they’ve all been cranking for days... They say this is home for now, and welcome folks to this site that have been wondering where to go to plug in. Although there is now a support scene going on, please be self-sufficient, and plan to work hard.

Notice the complete honesty in reporting donated income. Everyone is there on their own dime. This has been a problem, as gas is in the $3 range. Would love to help with the gas issue but there is not enough cash.

REMA (Rainbow Emergency Management Assembly - I love the acronym) is basically the only relief agency on site for a former city of 20,000. As Rob stated, National Guard and police agencies are being fed. As it was put to me, people were eating peanut butter out of the can as their source of substance before the Family showed up.

The stories of people clinging to trees and roofs are endless. Stone (my contact on site) relayed that people have lost everything. He’s seeing a lot of hypertension and daibetes due to medication floating away. On the positive side, a medical doctor hooked in and was able to bring a lot of medications. Him, Stone, and a registered nurse are working a first aid tent.

THEY WANT IT RE-RELAYED THAT KITCHEN CREW AND GENERAL LABOR IS NEEDED DESPERATELY!!! TAKE PART IN A MEMORY OF A LIFETIME AND SAY YOU WERE THERE WHEN I TALK TO YOU IN TWENTY YEARS AT A GATHERING. OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING...

Okay, well, on the donation end; funds have increased pretty well. CALM has just about has the original $800 spent on supplies donated to our account (phew). I intend to start a personal thank you list, but for now, here’s a general THANK YOU!!! You all are beautiful.

well thats the norm when ya ask questions to narrow it down, i have pictures to look at made in the last two days, didn’t see them in the kmart lot nor the wally world lot. but i did see the red cross trucks and tractor trailers and national gaurd, and razor wire and a few other things but no buildings.

The Waveland team originally started in Gulfport, but consensed to move to Waveland due to no relief help in the area.

Thank you, it's been a real pain in the ass to selflessly give my time and 300 minutes overage time on a cell phone, on a movement that was shaky on it's inception. I am glad I did/doing it.

Spirit sucking is right. I'm not on site, nor do the facts bore out what was originally reported to me about pop. and some other small but eludicating facets of the area.

Might as well let it go Nightshade. You probably don’t read agr much so you don’t know what spirit is doing. He just plays contarian. If you let him he will suck as much time and energy as you have into his twisted little dark paths. There’s no reaching some sort of understanding or accomodation. The moment the facts overwhelmingly make his arguements untenable he switches to another tack and continues to suck away at your time and energy. Why he would waste his time in such antics is beyond me but waste time he does and he will waste your’s. He posts more than 3 times as much as the next highest monthly poster trying to get as many people as possible sucked into his game. Play it if you want, its your time and energy. I long ago decided not to. I may toss out one post to him on rare occasions but I won’t follow it up and get involved in one of his fake dialogs.
