The Bonnie Blue Flag

The Bonnie Blue Flag was the flag of the short-lived Republic of West Florida, proclaimed on September 11, 1810 by American settlers dissatisfied with their Spanish rulers. 74 days later they willingly let themselves be annexed by the United States after it had purchased the land from Spain. Decades later during the Civil War, it became an unofficial banner of the Confederacy, inspiring a song that was often sung by Southern troops.

We are a band of brothers, all native to the soil
Fighting for the property we gained thru honest toil
And when these rights were threatened, the cry went near and far
Hoorah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star

The lyrics may be disagreeable to modern ears, but I think the tune (originally Irish) deserves to live on. (Sometimes the Devil can have the best ones.) Here it has been transformed into a fugue.

The instruments portrayed are the basic electronic trinity. The pedal bass is square wave over sine wave in octaves.
